Restore for Constipation in Children and Healing the Gut
Restore for Constipation in Children and Healing the Gut
My son was diagnosed with reflux as an infant and struggled with constipation from infancy. I remember when he was just about 6 months old and I flew up to see my grandma. He never had a bowel movement during our trip. I had to go to the drug store and get infant suppositories. His belly was swollen and distended and he was in pain. It was horrible to see him in so much pain and not be able to do anything to help him.
My son was exclusively breastfed and I was very careful with my diet trying to not irritate his gut, eliminating dairy from my diet along with gluten and other things that bothered him. When he started solids, his constipation got worse and his diaper changes would smell so bad that it would clear the room. The food was basically sitting in his gut so long that it was fermenting and going rancid. He had horrible gas pains and would cray before and during going.
He was hospitalized with Salmonella at 16 months and put on IV antibiotics. Shortly after he was diagnosed with IgA deficiency and gluten intolerance, suspected celiac. His constipation worsened after this and he had more and more foods that would bother him. He couldn’t eat strawberries or watermelon without crying in pain after. He was referred to a Pediatric Gastroenterologist at age 4. The Gastro diagnosed my son with Megacolon and put him on Miralax. He said that my son would need to be on Miralax for life. The Gastro told me that it was an inert sugar and perfectly safe. Neither was true.
After being on a 1/2 cap of Miralax for about a year and a half, my son started to tic, he had gut pain that would double him over prior to having a bowel movement and had massive anxiety to the point where he had to be with me wherever I went. He was having trouble potty training and was lining his toys up and spinning in circles. His doctor got him into the local Children’s hospital and I was told that they suspected autism and Tourette’s plus OCD and anxiety. He had a psychiatric evaluation done, was diagnosed with Tourette’s, anxiety and PDD-nos and began Occupational Therapy.
I started to wean him off of Miralax because I suspected it was causing the gut pain even though none of his doctors, including a second gastro, believed me. When I started to wean him off of Miralax, the neurological issues improved. When he was given another dose of Miralax, they came roaring back.
I took my son to a new doctor, Dr. Zach Bush. Dr. Bush had me give my son the supplement Restore (Click to go to Restore’s website)
Dr. Bush is the scientist behind Restore. He is an incredibly kind man and probably the smartest person I have ever met.

Restore has helped me to heal my son’s gut from

My son doesn’t take any other medicines for constipation after years of struggle. We also don’t need to use any probiotics when taking Restore. We do a lot of fermented foods and drinks but my son hasn’t been on a probiotic in years.
The Science Behind Restore
Dr. Bush and his team have a new white paper on Restore and what
RESTORE was shown in 2 weeks’ time to:
- Reduce glyphosate in the body by 23%
- Reduce the IL-6 inflammation marker by 17%
- Reduce Zonulin (a protein that causes gut permeability) by 12%

Magic Dirt Water for Children and Dosing
There is a children’s version of Restore called Magic Dirt Water. It is the same product as Restore but in a kid-friendly package with dosing instructions for infants and children.
For Restore dosing, start with 3-5 drops under the tongue before meals, preferably 30 minutes before but we often forget and do it as I am putting food on the table. It still works. You can increase your dose by working your way up to 1 tsp 3x a day or by doing 3-5 drops every hour. To work up to a full dose, double the dose weekly until a maintenance usage of 25 drops (1/4 teaspoon for under age 2) or 100 drops (1 teaspoon for over age 2) 3 times a day.
For infants, you can put drops of Restore on your nipple if you are nursing or drip right into their mouth. Our world is so toxic, even breast milk has been shown to have glyphosate in it even if you eat an organic diet. It’s in our water and in our air and our infants are getting it from the air they breathe and the milk or formula they drink. If you are giving your infant formula, I highly recommend using an organic formula and Restore at each feeding.
If your child is in school and you aren’t sure how to get in that dose during school time, you can add the 2nd dose of the day to your child’s water bottle that you send to school with him or her and your child will get it over the course of the day. Just make sure they drink all of the water in their water bottle so they get all of the benefits of the dose of Restore.
Restore Dosing When Your Child is in Crisis
When my son was in crisis, we found the every hour dose worked the best. I set a timer and would give him 3 drops each hour. We saw improvements with that dosing very quickly.
On Restore, my son’s neurological issues improved pretty quickly. We saw improvements within days. The gut issues took a little while. Some people report that there is an increase in constipation initially. I know that when you are dealing with constipation that can be super scary. But the end result is worth it. Just increase your dose of Natural Calm Magnesium (Amazon Link) for a few days and increase water consumption. The gut will right itself and you will see huge improvements. Many families have had wonderful success with their children with Restore and have been able to get their children off of all other interventions.
If you don’t know why your child is constipated, this article on Finding the Root Cause of Constipation will help you. Often you need to make diet changes in addition to Restore. Many do best when gluten-free, dairy-free and on an organic minimally processed diet
Constipation Relief and Gut Healing for Super Tasters
Restore is about as close to tasteless as you can get, so really easy to get your child to take. This is especially important for children with sensory issues or autism who generally have a hard time taking meds or supplements with strong tastes.
My advice is before you get super worried that your kid won’t take it, just try giving the drops by mouth. And I know, I have a kid that we have to practically sit on to give medicine to, but Restore is really no big deal and he has taken this fine from the beginning.
When he was little and loved cars we called it his carburetor cleaner. He’d take his dose and then zoom around the house revving his engine. Now I put his
I also keep a small travel bottle of Restore in my purse and he will take drops from the bottle. We just
If it is really impossible to get your child to take it by mouth, then you can put it in a drink but it is much harder to make sure they get it all when you are talking about 3 drops.
My son needed to do the Restore Sinus Spray last winter and it wasn’t fun to get him to do it. He didn’t like the feeling of squirting it
Normalize it. If you get all freaked out and worried, they will sense it and refuse it.
My son had tics so hard he could hardly walk or hold a pencil. Most people wouldn’t even know he has tics now, they are sporadic and mild. He had debilitating anxiety. He would sit on the bath mat when I showered because he was too afraid to be 5 feet from me and now he’s fine with me going out and working in the yard or doing a project in another room while he plays.
Success with Restore
He goes to the bathroom daily with no laxatives or other interventions. We haven’t even had to use Natural Calm in a couple of years and when we did use it, it was only when we traveled and he got off schedule. Otherwise, he has daily, normal, pain-free bowel movements by just taking Restore daily.
My son was gluten and dairy free from 18 months. I’ve always been careful with his diet with very little packaged or processed foods. The only difference for us is that we got him off on Restore. I hope Restore helps your child as much as it has helped mine.

For more information on how to help your chronically constipated child, please read my article How Do I Solve My Child’s Chronic Constipation?
When your child is chronically or functionally constipated, it is frustrating and exhausting for both you and your child. It can also be very hard to figure out what interventions are helping to overcome their constipation and what regiment needs to be followed to help them go 1-3 times a day.
It is very helpful to track what you are giving your child and how it is working. It seems like you will remember how much magnesium or how many Chocolate Coconut Oil Poop Candies your child had last Tuesday when they had 2 great BMs, but the reality is that it is very hard to remember everything when you are stressed about your child’s constipation.
To make it easier for you to track the interventions you are using and what impact this regiment has, I want to offer you a free bowel movement tracker chart that you can download and then print off for each week. It will help keep you organized and will give you insight into what works to help you overcome your child’s constipation.
